Flight Check List

Flying is one of the safest modes of transportation. So as artists we can learn from the success of the airline industry of how we can take our product from where it starts to how it gets to its destination.

We have done the research...
We have learned about the great artists...
We have gotten the reference...
We have picked our light sources...
We have established our composition...
We have done a value study...
We have clean contours...
We have established the contrast and focal points...

The only way to get your board is ...

Research and Passion come together in the work of Sterling Hundley.

Hundley calls his image creation Ideation.

These outstanding images are not talent, but critically thought out solutions.

It is through the process he is able to make incredible discoveries.

These discoveries give a fresh solutions to well tread territory. For example, Napoleon has been draw thousands of times.

The master at work with his process.

Script to Screen...

How do we make the concept of our film come to life. It starts at the roots of the story. We are going to watch a script and action of the film in real time.

How we see things develop in our head vs what is put on screen can be very different. The difference is you are the director now. Write out what you see. The words can inform your decisions, but also give you the opportunity to transcend with your imagination.

Reimagination

This is the actual movie poster for the Labyrinth.

There are many ways to re-interpret the concept. This is where creativity occurs. Combine things that you like with the original subject matter and see if they fit. This is where experimentation through thumbnails is critical. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. A thumbnail is a way of exploring an idea with little risk.

You want to capture the spirit of the film and identify with the characters. However, remember to prioritize significance by creating a visual hierarchy. Your audience can't focus on everyone and everything equally and neither should you.

Yet, you may find concepts outside of the film that may inspire your creativity for it. This where originality really kicks in because of personality. Each person's discovery of ideas and where that journey leads them should be different because our personalities are different.

We are not doing minimalist posters.
