This is the actual movie poster for the Labyrinth.
There are many ways to re-interpret the concept. This is where creativity occurs. Combine things that you like with the original subject matter and see if they fit. This is where experimentation through thumbnails is critical. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. A thumbnail is a way of exploring an idea with little risk.
You want to capture the spirit of the film and identify with the characters. However, remember to prioritize significance by creating a visual hierarchy. Your audience can't focus on everyone and everything equally and neither should you.
Yet, you may find concepts outside of the film that may inspire your creativity for it. This where originality really kicks in because of personality. Each person's discovery of ideas and where that journey leads them should be different because our personalities are different.
We are not doing minimalist posters.
